MEDIA LANGUAGE
Media language consists of different codes and conventions used to communicate messages. here is what is included:
VISUAL CODES: Elements including colors,lighting,camera angles which help convey mood,emotions or significance in media content.
AUDIO CODES: In this sound,music and dialogues are included. These deeply affect how we interpret the story.
SYMBOLIC CODES: All the objects or symbols that carry a meaning or help convey theme,messages about the narrative are included.
REPRESENTATIONS
Representations refers to all the social groups,people and events are portrayed in media. These hep in reflection of broader societal views:
GENDER REPRESENTATION: How men and women are depicted in the media world. for instance as stereotypical role of women staying at home and being caregiver and men as breadwinners and strong.it can also help show more diverse portrayal of genders.
ETHNICITY & RACE: How different races and ethnicities are portrayed. helps provide voice for undermined voices.
CULTURAL REPRESENTATION: media has constructed ideas of what exactly is "normal" and what isn't. media has even set ideas for what your ideal lifestyle,fashion and behaviour should be.
AUDIENCE
Audience are those people who consume media content. you Audience is not passive they actively interpret media content:
TARGET AUDIENCE: Media content is mostly created with a certain group in mind, like some advertisements are specifically tailored for teens and some for adults.
ACTIVE Vs PASSIVE AUDIENCE: Active audience is that actively engage with the content, critique, ask questions and analyze what they consume whereas Passive audience is the ones who accept the content as it is.
AUDIENCE INTERPRETATION: Audience can interpret the given media content in different ways depending on age, background and personal experiences.
NARRATIVE
Narrative is the base story,organization for storytelling in media. every form of media uses narrative to tell their stories whether its films,tv shows,video games:
STORY Vs. PLOT: Story is basically all the events happening in the narrative and plot is how the events are arranged and told.
CHARACTER ARCS: how the character evolves and develops over a crucial part of story.
GENRES: Different genres follow different structures and conventions to portray their genre.
IDEOLOGY
All the ideas,views,values and beliefs conveyed through media content:
POLITICAL IDEOLOGY: Media platforms reflect specific political views and shape public opinions.
CULTURAL IDEOLOGY: How media promotes certain societal values,traditional family structures.
SOCIAL IDEOLOGY: How media represent different issues like gender equality, race,class and challenge existing social norms.
