 MISE-EN-SCENE & VERISIMILITUDE

Mise-en-scene is a word originated from france which translates to "placing on stage" Basically it refers to everything that appears before the camera in a given scene.filmmakers around the world use a wide range of elements to shape a viewer's experience. Here are some elements:

SETTING : The location or place where your story takes place. either it's  a palace or a isolated cabin. your setting helps establish your imaginary world.

COSTUME & MAKEUP :  A characters costume and how they look helps convey their personality, social status and their mental state. if your character has a well-chosen costume then the audience immediately understands the characters role in the story.

LIGHTING: lighting can drastically effect the mood of your scene, high-key lighting makes everything look happy and cheerful where as low-key lighting makes things look mysterious and dangerous. lighting can also help portray unscore themes or emotions.

PROPS: Objects in your scene don't just serve the purpose of decoration they help symbolize lager themes, give clues about the narrative or insight on a characters motivations.

Verisimilitude basically refers to appearance of being real or true.In the world of filmmaking this is what makes the story, characters feel believable or true. you have to create a world that feels consistent and convincing within its on rules doesn't matter if your theme is fantastical or something which doesn't exit. here are 2 key ways verisimilitude manifests in films:

REALISM: The main goal is to create a world which mimics the real world adding real-life experiences, behaviours and settings as closely possible.

STYLIZED VERISIMILITUDE:  All films like fantasy, super hero or sci-fi try to aim for Verisimilitude by creating a internal logic and consistency. For example the movie "MATRIX" is totally different from our world but the movies depiction of virtual reality works under specific rules which make the movie look believable and coherent. This is very important for audiences suspension of disbelief.
